Chavano Rainier "Buddy" Hield (born December 17, 1992 in Freeport , Bahamas ) is a Bahamian basketball player who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings in the US professional league NBA .

Career

High school and college

Hield was considered a great basketball talent in the Bahamas in his youth. He was therefore recruited from Sunrise Christian Academy, a US high school in Kansas . He developed into a pre-eminent high school basketball player and was courted by prestigious universities such as the University of Kansas . However, Hield chose the University of Oklahoma .

Hield played for the Oklahoma Sooners for four years. In his freshman season, he mostly came off the bench as a substitute and scored 7.8 points on average. From his sophomore year, he started the Sooners . Although he had numerous offers from the NBA after his junior year, he decided on a fourth and final year of college.

Hield managed another increase and he scored 25.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists on average. He also led the college league NCAA in transformed three-point throws. For these achievements he was honored with the John R. Wooden Award and Naismith College Player of the Year , as the best college player of the season. Following his college career, Hield was eligible for the NBA Draft .

NBA

In the 2016 NBA Draft , Hield was selected 6th by the New Orleans Pelicans . After only six months with the Pelicans, Hield was transferred to the Sacramento Kings on February 20, 2017, together with Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway .

International

Hield has played for the Bahamian national basketball team since 2014 . He took part in the Centrobasket in 2014 and took seventh place under trainer Larry Eustachy . In addition, he led the competition with 18.9 points per game, as the best scorer.
