Larry Eustachy (born December 1, 1955 in Alameda , California) is an American basketball coach and currently works at Colorado State University . In 2000 he was named College Trainer of the Year by the AP News Agency.

Coaching career

After stints in Idaho (61 wins, 33 losses) and Utah State (98 wins, 53 losses; participation in the NCAA Tournament 1998) Eustachy moved to Iowa State University in the summer of 1998 . There he inherited Tim Floyd , who moved to the Chicago Bulls in the NBA . In his first season, Eustachy missed the finals. But in the 1999/2000 season he and his team not only won the Big 12 Conference , but also reached the round of eight in the NCAA Tournament.

After winning the Conference title again the following season, Eustachy extended his contract with Iowa State University . This new contract made him the highest paid government employee in Iowa . But both in the 2001/02 season, as well as in the 2002/03 season, the NCAA tournament was missed. In 2003, Eustachy came under fire for pictures showing him at parties the nights after he lost away.

Eustachy was initially suspended and should then be released because he had violated a moral clause in his contract. Eustachy apologized for his behavior at a press conference and announced that he was undergoing treatment for alcohol abuse. He initially wanted to oppose his release, but finally resigned from his job on May 6, 2003.

After a year break, he started the 2004 season as head coach of the University of Southern Mississippi . Since then he has had a record of 89 wins and 82 losses and missed the NCAA tournament every year. In the summer of 2009, he even waived his due bonus payment of $ 25,000 because he was of the opinion that the weak preseason did not justify a bonus. He has been a trainer at Colorado State University since 2012.
