Darnell Marcus Lamar Fizer (born August 10, 1978 in Inkster , United States ) is a retired American basketball player.
High school
Fizer played at Arcadia High School in Louisiana. In his senior year he was invited to the McDonald's All-American Game, a game played by the best high school players in the country.
college
Tim Floyd became aware of Fizer, who also played in Louisiana , during his time at the University of New Orleans and was able to persuade him to play under him at Iowa State University . After two years, however, Floyd left the university and was replaced by Larry Eustachy . In his third year, Fizer and his team won the title in the Big 12 Conference and reached the round of eight in the NCAA Tournament. He was also voted the best player in the conference. He then decided to move to the NBA before the end of his college days.
NBA
Fizer was voted fourth by the Chicago Bulls in the 2000 NBA Draft . These have now been trained by Tim Floyd . But Fizer always had strong competition in his position with the Bulls, first Elton Brand and later Tyson Chandler , and was therefore never really able to assert himself. Though he was voted into the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after his rookie season , Fizer never scored more than 13 points per game in his four years in Chicago. In January 2003, he was also incapacitated by a cruciate ligament tear.
In the summer of 2004, the Charlotte Bobcats secured the rights to Fizer in a so-called expansion draft . However, he did not make it into the Bobcats team and instead signed a contract with the Milwaukee Bucks . There he played one season, but was not signed up and found no other NBA team.
In November 2005 he therefore moved to the NBA Development League for the Austin Toros . During the 2005/06 season he received a ten-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics without however having to play a game for them. At the end of the season he was finally elected MVP of the NBA Development League and then signed another ten-day contract, this time with the New Orleans Hornets .
Overseas
In the summer of 2006, Fizer first moved to Polaris World Murcia in the Spanish league before moving to the Arecibo Captains in Puerto Rico . Before the 2007/08 season, Fizer signed a two-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel . In its first season there, Tel Aviv reached the final of the Euroleague , but lost there to CSKA Moscow . Fizer, however, could not appear in this final due to a knee injury. Because of this knee injury, his contract was canceled after only one year.
Fizer paused for two years and only signed again in February 2010 with the Guaynabo Mets in Puerto Rico , where he ran up together with Antoine Walker . He later played professional basketball in Taiwan , Argentina , Bahrain and now, in Venezuela, among others .
Others
Fizer took part in the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane with Team USA . There he got 4.8 points and 3 rebounds on average and won the gold medal.
