Uwe Hugo Rudolf Schneider (born October 20, 1943 in Zwickau ) is a German local politician (CDU), genealogist, local history researcher and author .

Life

Schneider spent his early childhood years in Bernsbach , where his family was a partner in the metal goods factory Schneider & Korb Bernsbach in the Ore Mountains . He has lived in the mountain town of Zwönitz since 1947 . After studying journalism , which Schneider graduated with a diploma, he worked as an editor for the daily newspaper Freie Presse from 1968 . Because of his attitude towards the Prague Spring , he was arrested in 1970 and from 1971 was banned from working and writing . As a result, in 1972 he took up a position as a machine operator in a three-shift operation in the Zwönitz cardboard factory Krempel, worked as an employee and site manager from 1974 to 1979 and as the head of the economics department from 1980 to 1990. From January 1990 he was the moderator of the round table in Zwönitz. From June 1, 1990 to July 31, 2008, he was the freely elected mayor of the western Saxon city for three terms. The incorporations of Brünlos , Dorfchemnitz and Günsdorf (1998/99) fall during his term of office .

From 1962 until the ban on writing, which was imposed in 1970, Schneider published a number of stories and contributions to regional history. Since 1965 he has been researching the local history in the Zwönitz area and doing his own genealogical research. During his tenure as mayor, he initiated extensive genealogical work on Zwönitz and its incorporated villages. a. resulted in several local family books and published registers of court books . He is the author of numerous books, often in the Ore Mountains dialect , some of which are autobiographical . Schneider's first novel Kathi unter Männer was published by Projekt -Verlag Cornelius in 2013 . In June 2015 he published a chronicle of Günsdorf, and in March 2016 the first scientifically based account of the history of Zwönitz.

Honors

In 2004 he was awarded the Kammweg Literature Prize of the Erzgebirge cultural area. The Adam-Ries-Bund, based in Annaberg-Buchholz, honored Schneider in October 2014 - in recognition of his "extensive activities in the publication of booklets of the series sources on the local and family history of the Erzgebirge" - with the award of an Adam-Ries Special Prize. On November 4, 2016 he was awarded the Saxon State Prize for Local Research for his chronicle of the city of Zwönitz 960–1945 . He has been an honorary citizen of the city of Zwönitz since 2008 .
