Saxon State Prize for Local Research

The Saxon State Prize for local history research has been awarded annually to volunteer local history researchers by the Saxon State Ministry of Culture since 2008 . Since 2019, the organization of the competition has been carried out within the framework of a cooperation agreement with the ministry by the Saxon Heritage Protection Association .

Work proposed for the award can be written by one or more authors and be printed or submitted in multimedia form. They should deal with local history topics. These include:

The award winners are selected by a jury made up of representatives from the following institutions:

Prices

The first prize is endowed with 3000 euros, the second prize with 2000 euros (up to 2011 1500 euros) and the third prize with 1500 euros (up to 2011 1000 euros). In 2008 and 2009, a youth development award (1000 euros) was awarded. The winners of the student prizes will each receive 500 euros. A sponsorship award, first awarded in 2013, was associated with prize money of 1,500 euros. In addition, honorary certificates are awarded "for outstanding achievements and merits in the field of Saxon local research" or "particularly interesting approaches to local research issues".
