history

The village was first mentioned in 1442 as Lutigersdorff , the spelling Leuckersdorff has been handed down from 1486 . The Erbkretzschmar von Leukersdorf was probably donated to the Cistercian monastery Grünhain by the Lords of Waldenburg in the 13th century , while the village belonged to the sovereignty of the Benedictine monastery of Chemnitz . The latter had to be paid for cash interest and gratuitous money for replaced compulsory services as well as benefits in kind.

The feudal court and manor of Leukersdorf was acquired by Hans Kretschmar after the secularization of the Grünhain monastery in the 16th century, who thereby also gained lower jurisdiction. August Schumann reports about Leukersdorf in 1818:

It has 115 houses, 580 inhabitants, a daughter church of Neukirchen, 2 mills, 14 magazine hooves, and among the inhabitants there are many factories, hosiery weavers and linen weavers who weave many tent and kitten canvases. There is also a feudal court, which belongs to Grünhain with the upper courts, its own lower courts and some sub-courts, including 20 houses built on its land. Another part of Leuckersdorf, with 70 inhabitants, also belongs directly to the Grünhain office .

The unification of the previously independent administrative community ( Chemnitz Office ) and Gutsgemeinde ( Grünhain office ) to form the rural municipality of Leukersdorf took place in 1856/57, after the feudal charges in the manor district had been replaced in 1851.

The village church of medieval origin, renovated in 1782, was - as mentioned by Schiffner - a branch church of Neukirchen. Leukersdorf with Pfaffenhain and Seifersdorf was raised to an independent parish in 1859. The church has a single nave with a two-storey gallery. The pulpit altar dates from the 18th century, the winged altar by Peter Bräuer (1518). The organ was built in 1863 by Christian Friedrich Göthel .

The village of Seifersdorf, which was independent until June 30, 1950, and Pfaffenhain, which was independent until December 31, 1973, were incorporated into Leukersdorf. On January 1, 1999, the merger with Jahnsdorf took place to form the Jahnsdorf community.

A town partnership exists with Veitsbronn .

There has been an independent evangelical grammar school in town since 2007, and a secondary school since 2018 .

At the beginning of 2018, residents and friends of Leukersdorf founded the Heimatverein Leukersdorf eV
