Zbigniew Bargielski

Zbigniew Bargielski (born January 21, 1937 in Łomża ) is a Polish composer.

After studying law at the University of Lublin (1954–57), Bargielski studied composition with Tadeusz Szeligowski at the Warsaw State Music Academy from 1958 , and after his death at the Katowice Music Academy with Bolesław Szabelski (until 1964). He continued his education as a scholarship holder of the French government 1966–67 with Nadia Boulanger and finally at the Graz University of Music. Bargielski has lived in Austria since 1976 and has been an Austrian citizen since 1983. In 1986 he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service .

In addition to several operas, Bargielski composed chamber music, orchestral and vocal works. His compositions were u. a. played at the Warsaw Autumn , the Zagreb Music Biennale, the Festival de Paris and at the Styrian Autumn in Graz. He received u. a. first prize in the competition of young Polish composers in Warsaw in 1965 and second prize in the Arthur Malawski composition competition in Krakow in 1976 and was honored with a special mention at the UNESCO International Composers' Rostrum in Paris in 1981.
