Live and act

Manfred Schollmeyer was born in 1939 as the son of the worker Aloysius Ferdinand Schollmeyer and his wife Anna in Mühlhausen / Thuringia. He attended elementary school in Mühlhausen / Thuringia and Heiligenstadt and learned the trade of a flat knitter in the VEB Obertrikotagenwerk "Einheit" Mühlhausen , which he successfully completed in 1956 with the skilled worker examination. In 1956 he was admitted to the Jena Faculty of Workers and Farmers, where he graduated from high school in 1959. Since 1960 he was married to the nurse Sieglinde Röhl (1940-2019). The couple has three children.

After a practical year at the Jena University Clinics from 1959 to 1960 , Schollmeyer studied human medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena from 1960 to 1966 and continued his training as a specialist in gynecology at the Pößneck District Hospital and at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena Gynecological Clinic in 1966 . He was in 1969 at the University Women's Hospital Wilfried Möbius doctorate and put 1971 Specialist exam. As a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, Schollmeyer worked at the Pößneck district hospital from 1971 to 1974, where he was appointed senior physician and on November 18, 1974 took over the position of chief physician at the Oschatz district hospital, which he held until December 31, 2004. During this time he suggested building a new gynecological clinic (built 1978–1980), introduced minimally invasive diagnostic and operative laparoscopy at the Oschatz gynecological clinic in 1981 and the rooming-in system in 1985 . His professional interest was particularly focused on the further development of minimally invasive diagnostic and surgical procedures in gynecology. From 1993 to 2004 he was chairman of the Oschatzer gynecologists association.

Schollmeyer was very interested in the history of medicine in Oschatz and in Saxony, first described the history of Oschatz hospitals in 1981 with Sylvia Schön and in 2001, together with his son Thoralf Schollmeyer, published the book “ Georg Kelling and the Saxon roots of laparoscopy - 100 years of laparoscopy (1901-2001 ) ". He was also involved in the elaboration of the history of the Oschatz hospital, for whose 100th and 110th birthday he published two extensive volumes. Since 2004 he has been involved as a member and board member of the "Oschatzer Geschichts- und Heimatverein eV" and published numerous works on the history of the city of Oschatz. The book series “Oschatz Personalities” is dedicated to personalities associated with Oschatz, such as the car maker Ernst Friedrich Pfitzner , the gynecologist Rudolf Vollmann and the local painter Artur Moritz . Another recurring theme is the “Oschatz Views”, in which he has summarized some historical views and some witnesses to the city's history such as stone cutters, keystones and house inscriptions into chronologies. In addition, he has only published handwritten chronicles by Oschatz such as those of the master baker Friedrich August Knape. Martin Blochwitz 's “Anatomia Sambuci”, published posthumously in 1631, was translated from early modern German into an understandable written language, edited the work with 322 footnotes and published it under the title “The Anatomy of the Elderberry and its Medical Application”, for which he did in 2015 received an honorary certificate from the Saxon State Prize for Local Research . In December 2019, Schollmeyer was honored with an honorary award at the Ur-Krostitzer Annual Ring for his “life's work, which was as varied as it was profound” , because, according to the laudator and jury member Rudolf Boch, he “had an excellent historical analysis”.

On March 4, 2020, the city of Oschatz honored Manfred Schollmeyer's work on the local history with an entry in the city's book of honor.
