Wilfried Möbius (born October 30, 1914 in Lohmen near Pirna , † June 10, 1996 in Jena ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Life

Wilfried Möbius lost his parents even before he started school. His mother died in 1917, his father in 1920. From the age of 6, he grew up with his stepmother. At Easter 1921 he started primary school and at Easter 1925 switched to the Real Gymnasium Pirna , later Borna near Leipzig. At Easter 1934 Möbius received his school leaving certificate there . He was then called up for military service, which he served until 1935.

After studying medicine in Leipzig and Vienna , Wilfried Möbius received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig in 1940 . He began his medical work in the same year as an assistant doctor in the Naumburg City Hospital , first in the surgical department and then in the internal medicine department. In 1942 he became a hospital doctor during World War II . After the war he worked again as an assistant doctor from 1945, this time at the Leipzig University Women's Clinic. There Möbius became senior physician under Robert Schröder in 1951 and, after his habilitation in 1955, professor with teaching assignment. In 1956 he accepted the chair of the Medical Academy Magdeburg and on September 1, 1956, succeeded Karlheinz Sommer as head of the gynecological clinic in Leipziger Strasse. On September 1, 1958, Möbius became a full professor at the Medical Academy in Erfurt . In 1959 he moved again, this time as the successor to Gustav Döderlein , full professor of gynecology and obstetrics and director of the obstetric and gynecological clinic at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . From 1965 to 1967 Wilfried Möbius was chairman of the Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology of the GDR and from 1968 to 1974 dean of the medical faculty of the University of Jena. He was a member of the university's senate until 1978. Möbius was co-editor of the archive for tumor research , the contributions to cancer research and employee of the journal reports on the entire gynecology and obstetrics as well as their border areas . Wilfried Möbius headed the Jena clinic until his retirement in 1980. He died in 1996 at the age of 81.

Wilfried Möbius was married to Gertraud Möbius, nee Mähler, since October 1940. The marriage had three children.

Möbius was awarded the Hufeland Gold Medal in 1966, the Honored Physician of the People in 1970 and the Medal for Faithful Services in Healthcare in 1973 .
