Grinder costume
The Schleifer costume , in Sorbian Slepjanska drasta , is one of the four Sorbian costumes still worn in everyday life . It is named after the village loop .
Geographical distribution
The distribution area of the Schleifer costume is one of the smallest Sorbian costume areas, only the area of the Nochten costume was significantly smaller with only three villages. The costume is worn in the seven villages of the Schleifer region : Groß Düben , Halbendorf , Mulkwitz , Mühlrose , Rohne , Runde and Trebendorf .
To the north of the Schleifer traditional costume area is the distribution area of the "traditional costume around Senftenberg and Spremberg", to the east that borders that of the Muskau costume and to the south that of the Nochten costume. All three costumes have the status of a chest costume today . To the west is the Hoyerswerda costume area .
Characteristics
Due to the great homogeneity of the inhabitants - the majority came from Sorbian farming families - the Schleifer costume remained as mandatory clothing within the village community until after the Second World War, and important rules had emerged that were passed on from generation to generation. While these rules were less stringent in the men's and children's costumes, certain colors or costumes were prescribed for the festive and everyday costumes of girls and women for different occasions and ages. In the mourning costume, for example, a distinction was made between deep mourning, mourning, half-mourning and mourning. The costume also showed whether a young woman was single, engaged or married.
