Club Baloncesto Murcia , also known under the sponsor name UCAM Murcia , is a Spanish basketball club from Murcia . The first team plays in the Spanish ACB league . The home games are played in the Palacio de Deportes de Murcia , which holds around 7,454 spectators .

history

The association CB Murcia was founded in 1985 as Agrupación Deportiva Juver . After a season in the Regionalliga, the club acquired Logos Madrid's starting place in the second division in 1986 . Both 1987/88 and 1988/89 the club failed in the promotion play-off, but in 1989/90 succeeded by a final victory against Obradoiro CAB the championship title in the second division and the first promotion to the ACB league . This encounter was interesting because Juver Murcia used the Argentine Esteban Pérez as a Spaniard with a forged identity card. Although the team from Murcia was not punished by the sporting authorities and was allowed to move up, Obradoiro CAB took legal action against the decision, got right and was allowed to participate in the ACB league 19 years after this encounter.

In the top division, the club should be able to hold out for six years, in the first three seasons under the name Club Baloncesto Juver Murcia and from 1993 finally under the current name Club Baloncesto Murcia . The team's greatest success so far was in the 1995/96 season, when they made it to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey , but failed there with 78:81 at the eventual winner TDK Manresa .

In the 1996/97 season, relegation to the second-rate Liga Española de Baloncesto took place . Both 1997/98 and 2002/03 succeeded in promotion to the ACB league, but in both cases CB Murcia could only hold one year in the first division.

In the 2005/06 season, CB Murcia prevailed in the promotion play-offs against CB L'Hospitalet and CAI Zaragoza and came back to the top division. With the exception of one season in the LEB 2010/11, the club was able to stay in the ACB league, participation in the play-offs for the championship title did not succeed for the time being. However, this changed for the 2015/16 season. Under the new coach Fotis Katsikaris , the club finished the main round in seventh place, which qualified for participation in the final round of the championship.
