Tomas Delininkaitis (born June 11, 1982 in Klaipėda , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian basketball player . Delininkaitis' greatest successes at international level are winning the bronze medal at the 2010 World Cup with the Lithuanian national team and winning the ULEB Cup 2004/05 with the Lietuvos rytas club from Vilnius . In addition, Delininkaitis won with his respective clubs championships of the Baltic Basketball League as well as national titles in Lithuania and Ukraine .
Career
In 2002 Delininkaitis came from his parent club Neptūnas to Lietuvos rytas in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . There he played with his teammates from the U20 junior national team Simas Jasaitis and Povilas Čukinas . In the 2004/05 season, the club won the ULEB Cup 2004/05, the first European title win. In the following season the arch-rival Žalgiris Kaunas was able to steal not only the Lithuanian championship, but also the title in the Baltic league. After players like Robertas Javtokas and Jasaitis as well as Čukinas had left the team, 2007 could only defend the success in the Baltic league.
Subsequently, Delininkaitis also moved abroad in 2007 and won the Ukrainian championship in 2008 with BK Azovmash from Mariupol . After another station in the Ukraine at BK Budiwelnyk from Kiev , Delininkaitis moved to the Spanish ACB league for the basketball club from Murcia for the 2009/10 season . However, the team was not very successful and rose at the end of the season with only five wins from bottom of the table. Delininkaitis and the club had separated again at the end of February. In early April 2010 Delininkaitis got a new contract with PAOK from Thessaloniki in the Greek A1 Ethniki , but they were eliminated in the first play-off round for the Greek championship. In summer 2010 Delininkaitis was again in the squad of the Lithuanian national team for the 2010 World Cup in Turkey. After he had already been a member of the final squad for the 2006 World Cup and the 2009 European Championship , they were more successful at these World Cup finals. After a preliminary round victory over European champions Spain and a quarter-final victory over the Olympic bronze medalist Argentina , in which Delininkaitis showed his best tournament performance with 16 points in twelve minutes, they were unbeaten until the semi-finals, in which they were defeated by the defending champions United States . By winning the "small final" against Serbia and winning the bronze medal, this was the only defeat at this tournament. In the eight wins in this tournament, all games except for the preliminary round against Spain and Canada were won by at least ten points.
Subsequently, Delininkaitis separated from PAOK in 2010 in a dispute over salary payments and returned to his homeland in Lithuania, where he joined his former arch-rival Žalgiris from Kaunas , of all places. With this club he won the "Baltic Triple " in 2011 from national championship and cup wins as well as winning the Baltic League. This could be repeated in 2012 except for winning the national cup. At the 2011 European Championship finals in their own country, Lithuania, in whose team Delininkaitis had barely received any game play, finished fifth after a surprising quarter-final defeat by outsider Macedonia and had to go to the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. After the tournament in Caracas , in which Lithuania qualified and Delininkaitis again got little play, coach Kęstutis Kemzūra exchanged the squad on two positions, including Delininkaitis against his long-time teammate Jasaitis. Delininkaitis thus missed once again after 2008 to participate in the Olympic Games. For the 2012/13 season he went back to the Basketball Superliga Ukraine and got a contract in Cherkassy with BK Mawpy.
