Shammond Omar Williams (born April 5, 1975 in Bronx , New York ) is a retired American basketball player who also holds Georgian citizenship.

career

college

In college, Williams played four years for the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina and reached the Final Four tournament for the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship with the renowned team in three of four seasons , but without being able to win a championship.

Professional career

In the 1998 NBA Draft he was selected in 34th place by the Chicago Bulls and moved to the Atlanta Hawks without having played a game for the Bulls . After three games with the Hawks, he had a short contract with Ülkerspor in the Turkish basketball league, but returned to his home country in the summer of 1999 and got a contract with the Seattle SuperSonics . After three seasons he played from 2002 for the Boston Celtics , Denver Nuggets , New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic .

In 2004 he moved to Europe and played for the Russian club UNICS Kazan. During this time he took Georgian citizenship and became a national player for his second home country. In 2005 he went to Winterthur FC Barcelona . In 2006 he returned to the NBA and played for the Los Angeles Lakers . A year later, the Guard moved back to the Spanish league and initially played two seasons in Valencia and in the 2009/10 season for Unicaja from Málaga and CB Murcia.

In May 2010 he was signed by the top Italian club and serial champion Mens Sana from Siena for a month without ultimately playing a game for the club. After that he was initially without a contract, in December 2010 he was faced with an obligation by the Turkish first division club Oyak Renault, but was finally signed in 2011 by Apollon from Limassol , Cyprus . After the championship ended in Cyprus, he played in Italy from March 2011, where this time he actually played eight more games for Sutor Basket from Montegranaro .
