Bernardo Rodríguez Arias (born June 7, 1980 in Málaga ), called Berni Rodríguez , is a former Spanish basketball player . He spent most of his career at Unicaja Málaga in the Spanish ACB league . With the national team he won gold at the 2006 World Basketball Championship and the silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games .

career

Berni Rodríguez began his career in the youth of Unicaja Málaga . In the summer of 1999 he was promoted to the professional squad of the Andalusians and made his professional debut in the ACB league on September 4th of this year . During his 13 years at Unicaja, he was able to celebrate numerous successes, including winning the Korać Cup in 2000/01, the title in the national cup in 2004/05 and winning the Spanish championship in 2005/06. In addition, he reached the final four of the ULEB Euroleague with his club in the 2006/07 season , where his team ultimately finished third.

In the summer of 2012 he left his long-term club and moved within the ACB League to CB Murcia , where he spent two years. In 2014 he moved to CDB Sevilla , where he let his career end. In July 2016, Berni Rodríguez announced the end of his active career.

National team

Berni Rodríguez belonged to a very successful generation of Spanish national players who already attracted attention in their youth. Together with players like Pau Gasol , Juan Carlos Navarro , Felipe Reyes , José Calderón , Raül López or Carlos Cabezas , he won the 1998 Albert Schweitzer Tournament and the U-18 European Championship. In 1999 he won the Junior World Championship with Spain .

On November 21, 2001 Berni Rodríguez celebrated his debut in the Spanish senior team in the course of qualifying for the 2003 European Basketball Championship against Romania . His greatest success with this should come in 2006, when Berni Rodríguez won the World Cup with his selection . At the 2007 European basketball championship in their own country, his team only failed in the final against Russia and won silver. He achieved another success with the national team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, when the Spaniards only lost in the final against the USA . This should also be his last appearance in the dress of the Spaniards.
