career
society
Calderón began his career in his hometown in the youth of Doncel La Serena . During his junior years he switched to the offspring of the traditional club Saski Baskonia . The club from Vitoria-Gasteiz , which took up the name TAU Cerámica at the time, awarded Calderón to the second division Diputación Foral Alava for the 1998/99 season . In the following season, the young point guard moved within the league, also on loan, to CB Lucentum Alicante , with whom he immediately succeeded in promotion to the ACB league . On October 15, 2000, the 19-year-old Calderón made his debut in the first division and ended the season as a regular player with 8.6 points and 1.4 assists per game. In the summer of 2001, Saski Baskonia awarded the young point guard to Baloncesto Fuenlabrada for a year , where he again played a strong season. From the 2002/03 season he returned to the Basques after four years on loan, where he mostly came from the bank at the beginning and Elmer Bennett had to leave the preference as starting point guard. His breakthrough came in the 2003/04 season, as a regular he was able to win the Spanish Cup with his club by a 81:77 in the final against Joventut de Badalona . In the 2004/05 season, the team reached the final of the ULEB Euroleague under his leadership as playmaker , but where they lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv with 78:90.
In August 2005 Calderón moved as a free agent to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA . In the 2007/2008 season , Calderon had the highest rate of assists per lost ball in the league. During the following season , together with 3 hits from the 2007/08 season, he set a record of 87 free throws converted into series, which is the second longest such series in NBA history. During the entire season he achieved a free throw rate of 98.1% (151 of 154 recovered) and thus set a new NBA record.
On November 13, 2012 Calderón scored the first triple-double of his career after he had scored 13 points and 10 assists and rebounds against the Indiana Pacers . Just five days later, he got 18 of his team's 22 assists against Orlando Magic . This 81.8% mark means a new franchise record for Raptors, the previous record held since December 27, 1996 Damon Stoudamire with 8 out of 10 assists (80%) against the Washington Bullets .
On January 30, 2013, Calderon was transferred to the Detroit Pistons . In return, Rudy Gay joined the Toronto Raptors and Tayshaun Prince joined the Memphis Grizzlies . On July 5, 2013, Calderón joined the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent , where he signed a four-year contract. Calderon completed 81 games for the Mavs and reached with these the playoffs, where they lost in the first round against the San Antonio Spurs 3: 4 after series.
In June 2014, Calderon was transferred to the New York Knicks , along with three other players and draft picks . In return, Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton moved to Dallas.
On June 22, 2016, Calderón with Jerian Grant and Robin Lopez were swapped for Derrick Rose , Justin Holiday and a 2017 2nd round pick to the Chicago Bulls . On July 7, 2016, Calderon was then transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers along with 2 2nd round picks , in return the Bulls received the rights to Ater Majok.
After his contract expired in the summer of 2017, Calderon signed a one-year contract as a free agent with the Cleveland Cavaliers . With Cleveland Calderon reached the NBA Finals in the same year, where the Cavs lost 4-0 against the Golden State Warriors . The following summer, Calderon re-signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons as a free agent .
