Carlos Eduardo Cabezas Jurado (born November 14, 1980 in Málaga ) is a Spanish basketball player . He plays in the position of point guard .
career
Carlos Cabezas began his career in the youth of Unicaja Málaga . From 1998 to 2000 he played for the B-team of the Andalusians . He made his first-team league debut on February 13, 2000 against FC Barcelona . In the same season he played from April on loan in the LEB , the second Spanish division, for Círculo Badajoz . From the 2000/01 season he was finally transferred to the first squad of Unicaja Málaga. The talented point guard celebrated numerous successes with his club . Already in his first season he won the Korać Cup with a final victory against KK Hemofarm . In the 2004/05 season he and his team beat Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Cup 80:76, for Málaga this was the first national title in the club's history. The following season saw another success, Unicaja won the Spanish championship with a 3-0 final playoff against TAU Vitoria . In the 2006/07 season his team moved into the Final Four of the ULEB Euroleague and finished the most important European club competition in third place. In the summer of 2009, Cabezas moved together with his former coach Sergio Scariolo and his national team colleague Raül López to the Russian first division club BK Chimki . After only one season he returned to his homeland and signed for CAI Zaragoza .
National team
As a junior, Cabezas won the U-18 European Championship in 1998, the Albert Schweitzer Tournament in 1998 and the Junior World Championship with Spain, alongside later stars such as Pau Gasol , Juan Carlos Navarro , José Calderón , Felipe Reyes or Raül López 1999. With the U-20 he won the bronze medal in 2000. In the senior national team he made his debut on November 21, 2001 against Romania in a qualifying match for the 2003 European Basketball Championship . At the 2006 World Cup , he and the national team won the first world title in history for Spain. At the EM 2007 he reached the final, where the team lost to the Russians 59:60. At the 2009 European Championship , Cabezas achieved another title win with Spain.
