Kevin Duane "Yogi" Ferrell Jr. (born May 9, 1993 in Greenfield , Indiana ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Sacramento Kings in the NBA .

High school career

In his senior year of high school, Ferrell won the Indiana High School State Championship, setting the championship record with twelve assists . He also scored 17 points and nine rebounds . Ferrell finished this year averaging 18.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. On March 28, 2012, Ferrel played 22 minutes in the McDonald's All-American Game, with eight assists with no turnover. He was the only player in the game with four or more assists with no turnover. In the "Indiana Mr. Basketball" election, Ferrel finished second behind Gary Harris.

NBA career

Brooklyn Nets (2016)

Ferrell signed up for the 2016 NBA draft , but was not elected by any team. He played in the 2016 NBA Summer League for the Brooklyn Nets . In four games he came up with an average of 8.8 points, 1.8 assists, 1.5 rebounds in 17 minutes. He achieved throwing rates of 43.8% from the field, 18.2% from the three-point line and 71.4% for free throws. On August 5, 2016, he signed a contract with the Nets, but was released after only three preparatory games on October 21, 2016.

Dallas Mavericks (2017-2018)

On January 28, 2017, Ferrell signed a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks . He played his first game the next day as a starter against the favorite San Antonio Spurs and scored nine points, seven assists, two steals in 36 minutes without losing the ball. He replaced the injured Deron Williams . The Mavs won the game 105-101. A day later, the Mavericks played against the reigning champions Cleveland Cavaliers . In the 104: 97 victory, Ferrell scored 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals in 38 minutes. In his fourth game, the 108-104 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers , he reached 32 points. He converted nine of eleven of his 3-point throws, making him only the second rookie to score nine threes in one game.

On February 7, 2017, Ferrell signed a two-year deal with the Mavericks for $ 1.65 million.

The clear starting point guard Deron Williams was released by the Mavs on March 23, 2017. The team barely had a chance at the playoffs and therefore oriented itself for the future. Ferrell was named point guard for the rest of the season after just one month with the Mavericks. The Mavs also hoped to have found their long-awaited point guard for the future.

A few days later, on March 2, 2017, the NBA named him Rookie of the Month for the Western Conference February . In February he led all the rookies in the Western Conference on points (12.0 ppg), assists (4.7 apg) and minutes (31.5 mpg). Appointed to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team following the 2016/17 season . The following season, Ferrell completed all 82 season games and scored 10.2 points on average. On March 17, 2018, he scored his career best in this category with 12 assists in the game against the Brooklyn Nets .

Sacramento Kings (since 2018)

In the summer of 2018 he agreed to extend the offer with the Mavericks, but a few days later he withdrew the offer and then signed with the Sacramento Kings .

Ferrell is the son of Kevin Ferrell Sr. and Lydia Ferrell and has one brother and two sisters.
