Not so Ygeman

Anders Ingvar Ygeman (born June 17, 1970 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish politician and Minister for Energy and Digital Development of the Kingdom of Sweden . From 2014 to 2017 he was the Swedish Minister of the Interior.

Ygeman is the son of journalist Ingvar Ygeman (* 1935) and has been a member of the Swedish Parliament since 1995 .

He is a member of the Swedish Social Democrats and belongs to the Löfven I government , which they form together with the Greens . The position of Home Secretary was reinstated when he took office, after being abolished by Göran Persson in 1998 . As Minister of the Interior, Ygeman is attached to the Ministry of Justice, which is headed by Justice Minister Magnus Johansson .

From 2015, Ygeman carried out the police reform decided under the former Justice Minister Beatrice Ask , with which twenty-three independent police authorities were converted into one central authority ( Polismyndigheten ). Critics accused Ygeman and the Reich Police Chief Dan Eliasson of having contributed to a police crisis , which manifested itself among other things in declining intelligence rates.

After the reintroduction of border controls in November 2015, he announced in January 2016 that he would prepare for mass deportations of asylum seekers.

In July 2017 it became known that Ygeman, as the minister responsible for the Säkerhetspolisen, had been informed early on about the illegal handling of, among other things, driver's license and vehicle data within the Transportstyrelsen , a traffic authority. The bourgeois parties of the Alliance for Sweden and the Sweden Democrats then called for Ygeman's resignation and announced a vote of no confidence in him and two other ministers. On July 28, 2017, Prime Minister Löfven announced Ygeman's resignation as Minister of the Interior. Ygeman should now become leader of the Social Democrats in the Reichstag.

After the 2018 Reichstag election , Ygeman became Minister for Energy and Digital Development in the Löfven II government .
