Peter Hultqvist (born December 31, 1958 ) is a Swedish politician of the Social Democratic Party ( Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti ) and since October 3, 2014 Minister of Defense in the governments Löfven I and Löfven II .

Life

Peter Hultqvist completed his school education in 1977 and worked as a journalist until 1989, most recently for the national Danish newspaper Politiken . He then began to get involved in politics, initially in his home town of Borlänge and in Dalarna County on a municipal level, and he was also on the board of directors of various local companies, such as Borlänge Energi AB (1999-2006) and HSB Dalarna (1989-2014) , a housing association that he headed as CEO from 2009 to 2014 .

From 1989 to 1998 he sat in the City Council of Borlänge, after which it was until 2006 the Chairman, it is parallel County since 2001 chairman of the Social Democrats in Dalarna and was a member of the board of the entire party from 2001 to 2005. In 2006 he was in the Riksdag elected and was a member of the Education Committee in his first term . From 2011 to 2014 he headed the Parliamentary Committee on Defense Affairs, and in 2014, after he was no longer re-elected as a member of parliament, he became Minister of Defense under the newly elected Prime Minister Stefan Löfven .
