Lena Hallengren
Lena Hallengren (born December 25, 1973 in Kalmar ) is a Swedish politician . She belongs to the Swedish Social Democratic Labor Party . In the Löfven I government , she was Minister for Children, Seniors and Gender Equality since March 2018. Since January 21, 2019 she has been Minister for Health and Social Affairs in the Löfven II government .
Personal history
Lena Hallengren studied education at the University of Kalmar from 1993 to 1996 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1996.
She lives with her two children and her husband in Kalmar, where she was born .
Political career
Lena Hallengren began her political career on the local political level: Between 1997 and 1999 she was involved in local politics in her hometown Kalmar .
Lena Hallengren has many years of experience in the executive branch at national level. She has been a member of the Reichstag since 2006. There she was a member of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture from 2002 to 2009, and from 2009 to 2010 she was Chair of the Committee on Transport and Communication. Between 2010 and 2014 she held the office of Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Welfare, and from 2014 to 2018 she headed the Education Committee in the Reichstag.
Lena Hallengren has also taken on several responsibilities in the executive sector. From 2002 to 2006 she was Minister for Pre-School Education, Youth and Adult Education. Since March 2018 she has been Minister for Children, Seniors and Gender Equality in the Löfven government .
Lena Hallengren is a member of the Swedish Social Democratic Labor Party . From 1999 to 2002 she was chairman of the party's youth organization.
Tasks in the Löfven government
Lena Hallengren's responsibilities as minister for children, seniors and gender equality include children's rights, gender equality, the rights and support of the disabled, as well as care for families, seniors and other individuals.

- UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as a Swedish law
Right at the beginning of Lena Hallengren's term of office in March 2018, the Löfven government introduced a bill to make the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into a Swedish law. In order to increase the impact of the convention, the draft law also proposed a handout for the implementation of the convention, an educational initiative and long-term systematic monitoring of the implementation.
- ICMEO conference
For May 2018, the Minister announced an international conference on men and equal opportunities ( ICMEO - International Conference on Men and Equal Opportunities ) in Stockholm under her auspices . The ICMEO conference has already taken place in Germany , Austria and Luxembourg in recent years . In 2018, it will focus on the role of men and boys in gender equality policy and the efforts that are being made in this area for gender equality.
