Lena Sommestad

Lena Sommestad (born April 3, 1957 ) is a Swedish politician ( Socialdemokraterna ) and economic historian. She was Sweden's Environment Minister from October 21, 2002 to October 6, 2006 in the Persson cabinet .

Lena Sommestad studied economics at Uppsala University . Her research had a feminist orientation. She received her PhD in 1992 and a PhD in Philosophy. In 1995 she was awarded the Clio Prize. From 1998 to 2002 she was the head of the Swedish Institute for Future Studies . In 2001 she was appointed professor of economic history at Uppsala University.

In autumn 2002 she took over the provisional management of the Ministry of the Environment instead of the seriously ill Kjell Larsson . She was appointed minister on October 21, 2002 and remained in office until the social democratic government was replaced by the alliance government on October 6, 2006. In the election to the Swedish Reichstag in 2006 , she was a substitute member, but did not move up to the Reichstag. In the next election in 2010 , she was again a substitute member and moved into the Reichstag on August 1, 2012 as the successor to Thomas Östros . On February 28, 2014 she gave up her mandate because she had been appointed Landshövding for Hallands län by the government . She has held this office since April 1, 2014.
