Jens Olov Heinrich Orback (born April 21, 1959 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish journalist and social democratic politician . In the government of Göran Persson he was from October 21, 2004 to October 6, 2006 Minister for Democracy, Metropolitan, Integration and Gender Issues.

Life

Orback, whose mother comes from Germany , studied politics and economics at Stockholm University until 1985 . He then worked at a bank and as a department head at the Swedish Ministry of Finance . In 1990 Orback switched to public service broadcasting, where he worked as a reporter and presenter until 1995. In 2004 Orback was appointed to the Swedish government as a member of the Swedish Social Democratic Workers' Party , after having previously been involved in local politics. Since 2008 Orback has been Secretary General of the Olof Palme International Center , an organization that is active in the field of international development work and in particular civil society development and conflict resolution.

In 2008 Orback's book Medan segern firades ( Ger ., 2015: Shadows on my soul ) was published. Orback describes the experiences of his grandmother Karin, who came from a Pomeranian landowner family, and his mother Katja, née. Fliessbach, especially after the end of World War II , when her mother was raped by Red Army soldiers .
