Marie Heléne Elisabeth Fritzon (born September 29, 1960 in Kristianstad ) is a Swedish politician . She belongs to the Swedish Social Democratic Labor Party . In the Löfven I government , she was Minister for Migration and Deputy Minister of Justice from July 2017 to January 2019.

Personal history

Heléne Fritzon completed her Bachelor of Primary Education exams at Kristianstad University College in 1987 and then studied law at Lund University .

She lives with her husband Henrik, the regional chairman of the Skåne län region , in Degeberga in the municipality of Kristianstad .

Political career

Since 1995 Heléne Fritzon has held leadership positions in the Swedish Social Democratic Labor Party . From 1995 to 2003 she was in the Presidium in Kristianstad in the party presidium , since 1997 she has also been in the party leadership at the national level. She was also involved in leading positions in her home town of Kristianstad and the surrounding area: from 2006 to 2017 she was a member of the city council and from 2010 to 2017 she was also mayor. In 2017 she became Minister for Migration and Deputy Minister of Justice in the Löfven I government as part of a government reshuffle.

In January 2019, the Swedish Social Democrats elected Heléne Fritzon as the top candidate for the 2019 European elections . During the formation of the Löfven II government on January 21, 2019, she left the cabinet to focus on the European elections.

Heléne Fritzon's responsibilities as deputy minister of justice included all matters of civil law.

  • During Heléne Fritzon's tenure, Sweden introduced border controls designed to prevent false identity from entering the country. Nationals and foreigners, including EU citizens, are obliged to have themselves photographed and to give their fingerprints.
  • On January 1, 2018, a nationwide central office to combat violent extremism was set up.
  • The protection of privacy as well as private contact data and photos of public sector employees in intranets has been strengthened.
