Åsa Charlotte Regnér (* 1964 in Malmberget ) is a Swedish politician from the Socialdemokraterna . She was Minister in the Löfven I government from 2014 to 2018 . Since 2018 she has been the deputy head of UN Women .

Life

Regnér grew up in Östergötland and studied political science , sociology and German literature at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg from 1984 to 1985 . Between 1990 and 1991 she worked as a volunteer in Bolivia . In 1991 he obtained a bachelor's degree from Stockholm University in German, Spanish and art history. In addition to Swedish, she also speaks English , Spanish , German and Portuguese . After graduating, she worked in the Swedish Ministry of Labor until 1994.

From 1994 to 1996 she was employed by the trade union umbrella organization Tjänstemännens Centralorganisation (TCO). She then returned to the Ministry of Labor as a consultant. Between 1998 and 2004 Regnér was political advisor for domestic politics and EU coordination. In 2000 she was part of the report on a gender research project at Linköping University . From 2004 to 2006 she was the planning chief of the Minister for Democracy and Gender Equality.

Between 2007 and 2012 she served as the general secretary of the Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning (RFSU), an association for sexual education . In 2011 she also obtained a master's degree in democracy development from Uppsala University . From 2013 to 2014 she was the head of UN Women in Bolivia.

On October 3, 2014, Regnér was appointed Minister for Children, Elderly and Equality in the Löfven I government. She held the post until March 7, 2018, when she was appointed Deputy Head of UN Women by UN Secretary General António Guterres .
