Isabella Lövin

Isabella Lövin (born February 3, 1963 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish politician and member of the Miljöpartiet de Gröna . Since October 3, 2014, she has worked as Minister for International Development Cooperation (from 2016 also for Climate) in the Löfven I cabinet and since January 21, 2019 as Environment Minister in the Löfven II cabinet . She was previously a member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014 . Since May 13, 2016 she has been party spokeswoman for Miljöpartiet together with Gustav Fridolin and subsequently received an expanded portfolio and the title of Vice-Prime Minister. On August 26, 2020, she announced her retirement from politics.

Life

Lövin studied political science, sociology, Italian and film studies from 1981 to 1985 at Stockholm University and political science from 1986 to 1987 at Bologna University . She completed her diploma in radio production at the Dramatiska Institutet from 1992 to 1994.

Between 1985 and 1992 Isabella Lövin worked as a journalist and freelance reporter for various Swedish magazines and newspapers. From 1994 to 1997 she worked as a radio producer and moderator of discussion programs for the Swedish radio broadcaster SR P1 . From 1997 to 2002 she was the managing editor of the magazine Månadsjournalen and from 2002 to 2003 the editor of the magazine Allt om mat and editor-in-chief of the magazine Leva .

Political activity

In her book Tyst hav (dt. Silent Sea), published in 2007, Lövin describes the problems that arise from the EU's Common Fisheries Policy . Lövin received fourteen awards in Sweden for the book, a. a. the Great Journalism Award, the “Golden Spade for Investigative Journalism” and the “Environmental Journalist of the Year” award.

In the European Parliament , Lövin was a member of the Greens / EFA group . She worked on the Committee on Fisheries and Development and was part of the delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament . Her successor in the EU Parliament is Linnéa Engström .
