Matilda Ernkrans (* 1973 ) is a Swedish politician from the Socialdemokraterna . Since January 2019 she has been the minister for higher education and research in her country.

Life

Ernkrans studied political science and sociology at Örebro University from 1994 to 1997 . Until 2002 she worked at the Swedish employment office Arbetsförmedlingen . During this time she was also active in local politics.

In 2002 she moved to the Swedish parliament Riksdag for the first time . There she was a member of the Culture Committee from 2002 to 2006 and then to 2010 of the Social Insurance Committee. From 2010 to 2018 she was the head of the Environment and Agriculture Committee before heading the Education Committee until 2019. Since 2016 she has been the leader of the Social Democrats in Örebro Province . She has also been a member of the party's executive committee since 2017.

On January 21, 2019, Ernkrans was appointed Minister for Higher Education and Research in the Löfven II government.

Private

Ernkrans is married, has two children and lives in Hallsberg .
