Ardalan Shekarabi (2014)

Ardalan Shekarabi (born November 28, 1978 in Manchester , United Kingdom ) is a Swedish politician ( SAP ). Shekarabi has been Minister of Social Security in the Löfven II government since October 2019 . He was previously civil minister from 2014 to 2019.

Career

Shekarabi lived in Iran during the first years of his life. In 1989 he emigrated to Sweden with his family. Her asylum application was initially rejected. The Shekarabi family stayed illegally in Sweden until they obtained permanent residence permits for humanitarian reasons in 1991. In 2007, Shekarabi graduated from Uppsala University with a Master of Laws degree .

Shekarabi was from 2003 to 2005 the spokesman for the youth organization of the SAP, the Swedish Socialist Youth Association (SSJ). He resigned due to allegations that Shekarabi had misappropriated funds from a non-profit SSJ project for his election campaign and suspected that membership numbers had been manipulated.

Shekarabi ran for the Social Democrats in the 2009 European elections , but only managed to get one place. In the 2010 Reichstag elections , he was a successor for the constituency of Stockholm County . He was chairman of a crisis committee of the Social Democrats after the election defeat in 2010. In April 2013, Shekarabi moved to the Reichstag. After winning the Reichstag election in 2014 , Shekarabi became civil minister in the Löfven I government . On October 1, 2019, he moved to the post of Minister of Social Security after Annika Strandhäll resigned for personal reasons.
