Political priorities in the Löfven government (selection)

  • Gender equitable pensions

The politician campaigned for gender-equitable pensions and set up a working group in 2015. In 2016 it published a report that analyzed the differences in pension levels between women and men. According to the results, women in Sweden receive an average of 30 percent less pension than men. They also looked for causes. These results were shared with other organizations and the feedback resulted in an action plan for gender equitable pensions. In 2017, the Pension Committee in the Reichstag approved a plan that consists of eight parts. Among other things, it subjects the basic pension system to an examination and facilitates the transfer of premium pensions in a partnership. The minister said: “We know how many pensioners can barely make ends meet and that 80 percent of guaranteed pension recipients are women. An important part of the ongoing effort is therefore to examine how the basic pension can be strengthened. There has not been a comprehensive review of the universal service since it was introduced 20 years ago and it is time to take action. "

Annika Strandhäll and the working group for gender equitable pensions considered a dialogue with the social partners about measures to extend working life to be important and set the organizational course for this. In 2016 the report Statement of intent on a longer working life was published.
