Hans Dahlgren (* 1948 in Uppsala ) is a Swedish politician ( SAP ) and EU minister in the Löfven II government . Previously, he had already advised Prime Ministers Olof Palme , Ingvar Carlsson and Göran Persson and was the Swedish UN Ambassador.

Life

Dahlgren grew up in Boliden in northern Sweden. During his school days he was involved in Sveriges Elevkårer (SECO), the Swedish association of student councils , of which he was chairman from 1967 to 1968. He later studied economics at the Stockholm School of Economics . After graduating in 1971, Dahlgren worked as a reporter for Sveriges Television . In 1975 he became an advisor to Foreign Minister Sven Andersson . From 1977 to 1983 he worked as press spokesman for Olof Palme , party leader of the Social Democrats and from 1982Swedish Prime Minister again. From 1983 until his assassination in 1986 he was Olof Palme's foreign policy advisor; From 1986 to 1991 he was ambassador and foreign policy advisor to Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson .

After the parliamentary elections in 1991 there was a change of government; Carl Bildt became Prime Minister. Dahlgren became Secretary General of the Commission on Global Governance in Geneva. In 1994 the Social Democrats regained government power and Dahlgren became State Secretary in the State Chancellery of Prime Minister Göran Persson . In 1997 he was appointed the Swedish ambassador to the UN in New York . In 2000 he returned to Stockholm and became State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry under Anna Lindh and later Laila Freivalds .

After the change of government in 2006 , Dahlgren first became Ambassador and Head of the Permanent Mission of Sweden to international organizations in Geneva , and in 2010 he became Ambassador for Human Rights. Between 2013 and 2014 he was executive director and treasurer of the Social Democratic Labor Party . In 2014 he became State Secretary for International and EU Affairs under the new Prime Minister Stefan Löfven . In 2019 Dahlgren became EU Minister in the Löfven II government, taking over responsibility for EU affairs from Trade Minister Ann Linde .
