Oleksandr Spyrydonowytsch Jantschuk ( Ukrainian Олександр Спиридонович Янчук , Russian Александр Спиридонович Янчук Alexander Spiridonovich Jantschuk , better known as Oles Jantschuk ( Олесь Янчук ); * 29. September 1956 in Fastiv , Kiev Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian film director , producer and screenwriter .

Life

Yanchuk went to school in Fastiw and studied from 1976 at the Faculty of Journalism of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev . Since 1979 he studied at the film department of the Kiev Theater Institute Karpenko-Karyj , which he graduated in 1984. From 1984 to 1989 he worked as an assistant director in the Kiev film studio Oleksandr Dowschenko ( Кіностудія імені Олександра Довженка ).

In 1991, Oleksandr Jantschuk was the director of the film "Holod-33" about the Holodomor from 1932/33, for which Leonid Tanjuk wrote the script. In 2008 he directed the biopic Wladyka Andrei about the Archbishop of Lviv and Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Andrej Scheptyzkyj . Since April 1, 2014, Jantschuk has been the director of the Oleksandr Dowschenko film studio in Kiev. On August 28, 2017, Yanchuk was elected chairman of the National Association of Cinematographers of Ukraine (NSKU) .
