Leonid Stepanowytsch Tanjuk ( Ukrainian Леонід Степанович Танюк , Russian Леонид Степанович Танюк Leonid Stepanowitsch Tanjuk ; born July 8, 1938 in Zhukyn , Kiev Oblast , Ukrainian theater director and † March 18, 2016 theater director in the Ukraine SSR Ukrainian theater director; Politician as well as Soviet dissident .

Life

Leonid Tanjuk was born in Schukyn to a family of teachers and grew up in Lutsk , where he graduated from school. From 1958 to 1963 he attended the Karpenko-Karyj Theater Institute in Kiev

Leonid Tanjuk was 1959 organizer and until 1963 president of the Kiev “Club of Young Creatives” (Ukrainian Клубу творчої молоді ), an informal association of dissident artists, which included artists such as Alla Horska , Vasyl Stus , Vasyl Symonenko , Vyacheslav Chornovil and Ivanovich .

He worked at the theaters in Odessa , Lviv and Kharkiv and, after persecution by local authorities, went to Moscow in 1965 , where he worked at various theaters until 1986. Between June 1986 and April 1988 he was the director of the Kiev Youth Theater.

In 1989 he was one of the founders of Narodnyj Ruch Ukrajiny (Ukrainian Народний Рух України ). Since 1992 Tanyuk was a member of the Verkhovna Rada , the Ukrainian parliament, and from 1990 to 1994 chaired the Commission for Culture and Spiritual Renewal. In 1992 he became chairman of the National Union of Theater Leaders of Ukraine and from 1995 he was also a member of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO

Tanjuk created more than 600 works on art, theater, literature, sociology and politics. He wrote the screenplay for the film "Holod-33" (About the Holodomor from 1932/33) and produced twelve documentaries.

He died at the age of 77 and was buried on March 22, 2016 in the Baikowe Cemetery in Kiev.
