Bengt Helge Ljungquist (born September 20, 1912 in Umeå , † July 15, 1979 in Förslöv ) was a Swedish fencer and dressage rider .

Bengt Ljungquist was vice world champion with the team in Piešťany in 1938 , in Lisbon in 1947 and in Luxembourg in 1954 . In 1937 in Paris and 1951 in Stockholm he also won the bronze medal with her. In 1947 he won silver in singles. He took part in fencing in the Olympic Games four times : in 1936 in Berlin he was eliminated from the preliminary round with the foil and the saber, as did the saber team. In 1948 he reached the final round in the team competition with the Swedish sword team, which he finished with a bronze medal behind France and Italy with Carl Forssell , Per Carleson , Frank Cervell , Sven Thofelt and Arne Tollbom . In the individual, he did not get beyond the semi-finals. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he moved with the team again in the final round, which was completed in second place behind Italy. Together with Carl Forssell, Berndt-Otto Rehbinder , Per Carleson, Lennart Magnusson and Sven Fahlman , Ljungquist received the silver medal. In 1956 he retired in Melbourne with the team in the preliminary round. Ljungquist was Swedish champion three times with the sword and once with the saber.

Ljungquist was also a dressage rider and won the Swedish championship twice in individual dressage. In 1964 he took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo . In the individual dressage he finished 22nd, in the team classification he placed fifth with the Swedish team. In 1970 Ljungquist emigrated with his wife to Potomac in the United States , where he began to work as a dressage trainer. He coached the US selection at World Championships, Pan American Games and the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , where the team won bronze. Ljungquist died after a heart attack while on home vacation in Sweden.

Bengt Ljungquist was a colonel in the Swedish army .
