Helene Hellmark Knutsson
Helene Hellmark Knutsson (born September 12, 1969 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish politician . She belongs to the Swedish Social Democratic Labor Party . She has been Minister for Higher Education and Research in the Löfven government since 2014.
Personal history
After attending compulsory school, Helene Hellmark Knutsson was at a secondary school with a specialization in the humanities from 1985 to 1989. From 1990 to 1993 she earned 60 credits as part of a university course in history, statistics and economics . She worked in sales and in catering.
The politician is married.
Political career
Helene Hellmark Knutsson began her political career as a trade unionist. From 1996 to 2001 and then again in 2010 she was the ombudswoman of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation , an umbrella organization of 14 individual trade unions, which mainly represent workers.
She was heavily involved in local politics and in various committees: from 2001 to 2010 she took on management tasks in Sundbyberg , and between 2011 and 2013 she was council chairman for the Mälartal and Stockholm regions . She was on the governing body of Sveriges Kommuner och Landsting , a Swedish association of local authorities, from 2011 to 2014, and on the Stockholm City Council she chaired the parliamentary group of the Swedish Socialist Workers' Party from 2010 to 2014.
She also held a number of offices at party level. Since 2013 she has been Chair of the Stockholm Region Social Democrats and a member of the Bureau at national level.
She has been Minister for Higher Education and Research in the Löfven government since 2014.
Measures in the Löfven government (selection)
During the term of office of Helene Hellmark Knutsson in 2015, a research agreement was signed with the USA that provides for two large joint research expeditions to the Arctic and opens up synergies for Swedish Arctic and climate research. In the same year, an agreement on closer cooperation in space was concluded between the two countries . Helene Hellmark Knutsson's ministry intends to achieve a balanced gender ratio among university professorships by 2030.
