Kai Thomas Platz (* 1965 in Hilpoltstein ) is a German medieval archaeologist .

Life

Platz studied archeology of the Middle Ages and modern times , prehistory and early history , monument preservation and history with a focus on medieval history. In 2000 he was on the subject: "Hilpoltstein from the early Middle Ages to the early modern archaeological, architectural history and historical aspects of the development of a Middle Franconian castle and town." At Ingolf Ericsson at the University of Bamberg doctorate .

From 1993 to 1996 he developed the concept of a museum of historical building trade for the city of Hilpoltstein. From 1997 to 2001 he was in charge of the excavation project at the Neideck castle ruins in the Forchheim district . From 2002 to 2008 he took part as head of the research excavations at the Lorsch Monastery World Heritage Site on behalf of the University of Bamberg and examined the Einhards basilica in Seligenstadt .

Since autumn 2008, Platz has been the head of the central archaeological finds of the city archeology in Duisburg , since summer 2011 he has been head of the ground monument preservation in the lower monument authority of the city of Duisburg. He is a lecturer at the University of Bonn .

His main research interests are the history of ecclesiastical and secular stone construction from late antiquity to the end of the Ottonians and the settlement and building history of Central Europe in the early and high Middle Ages.
