history

Iron Age stone circle in Degeberga

In and around Degeberga there are around 15 remains from prehistoric times, including a ship set and several grave systems. Most of these archaeologically interesting sites date from the Iron Age , including a stone circle (domarring) at the top of the site. The finds show that the area around Degeberga seems to have served as a thing site and trading center as early as the Iron Age . On the way between Degeberga and Östra Sönnarslöv there are several burial mounds and another stone circle from the early Iron Age.

In historical times Degeberga was first mentioned in several documents from the 14th century. Before that, however, there seem to have been settled farmers, and development apparently began before the name Degeberga was first mentioned . The Romanesque church can date back to the 13th century. The name of the place contains the elements “berg” and “dege”, the latter can either mean “swamp” or simply “large”. The name could then be translated as "the big mountains", which indicates Linderödsåsen , the southern Swedish highland area that extends from Degeberga to Höör .

Infrastructure, culture and administration

The houses in Degeberga are grouped around Tingsvägen , the main street that runs through the middle of the vast town.

Degeberga is located on Reichsstrasse 19 between Ystad and Kristianstad . In the village there is a library ( Degeberga bibliotek ), a school ( Degeberga skola ), two supermarkets, a treatment and care center as well as a public dental care and a home for the elderly. Outside the village is a golf course on which the Degeberga-Widtsköfle GK , founded in 1988, trains, the local golf club. Since Degeberga is close to the Baltic Sea (about ten kilometers from Hanöbucht ), tourism is an important economic factor. The local company Degeberga stugby AB sells and rents holiday homes.

Every year there is a market in Degeberga, but it cannot compete with the larger and better known in Kivik . Also every year there is a traditional music festival in their home park ( Hembygdsparken ), where the midsummer -Fire and various antique and collectible markets take place. In the Heimatpark you can find preserved or restored houses from the 18th and early 20th centuries, etc. a. a mill and a museum dedicated to the sculptor Ivar Johnsson .

Degeberga used to be the capital of a municipality of the same name (in Swedish commun ), but this was dissolved as part of a local government reform in 1974 and Degeberga was incorporated into Kristianstad. Today only the Degeberga tatort and the Degeberga församling ( parish ) bear the name Degeberga . At the same time, tatort is state-administrative, while församling is subordinate to the diocese of Lund ( Lunds stift ) and Villands och Gärds contract in the church-administrative hierarchy of the Swedish Church . The church of the församling is the Degeberga kyrka .

nature

The lower Forsakar waterfall

The tourist resort is located within Kristianstads Vattenrike ("Kristianstads Water Kingdom"), an extensive wetland area around the city of Kristianstad . There are two nature reserves in the vicinity of Degeberga : Forsakar and Degeberga backar . The ten-hectare Forsakar area is home to a brook that forms the two largest waterfalls in Skåne: The Forsakarsbäcken ("Forsakar brook") rises in Linderödsåsen , a mountain ridge in Northern Skåne, and falls eight and ten meters at a time near Degeberga high waterfall down two gorges. The nature reserve was established in 1929 after three dams had already been built to generate hydropower. Today the stream has formed a gorge lined with beech trees, through which it now flows. About two kilometers behind Forsakar, the Forsakarsbäcken disappears into the ground and only reappears near Vittskövle . Rare animal and plant species have settled in this valley, including the protected dark blue ground beetle ( Carabus intricatus ), the gray wagtail , the dipper , the golden oriole and the common ringweed . Even Carl Linnaeus visited Forsakar on 2 May 1749th
