Kivik is a place in the Swedish municipality of Simrishamn . It is located in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and the historic province of Schonen , directly on the Baltic Sea .

The place is known for Kiviks marknad , one of the largest fairs in Sweden with 150,000 visitors (2010). The grave of Kivik and the Stenshuvud National Park are nearby . There are many apple orchards around Kivik , the yield of which is processed into cider in the city and sold in the Äpplemarknaden . Even the fishing is an important industry.

The nearby grave field of Bredarör consists of a narrow stone circle measuring 20 meters with a large central bowl stone and a 60-meter-long nave with two central blocks. There are 130 more graves, most of which are inconspicuous, however.

administration

Kivik Harbor

Kivik is both a crime scene and a församling (" parish "). It is Kiviks tätort a state-administrative unit and as such the community Simrishamn (Simrishamn kommun) assumed during Kiviks församling a church-administrative unit and as such first contract-Österlens and Lunds pin is assumed. To församling the churches belong Ravlunda kyrka , Vitaby kirka , Södra Mellby kyrka and Kiviks kapell . In the past, Kivik was also the capital of a municipality of the same name (Kiviks kommun) , which was incorporated into Simrishamn municipality in 1974.

Kivik Market

The Kiviks Marknad market takes place on the third Wednesday of July for three days and, together with the markets of Sjöbo and Hörby, is one of the most traditional markets in Sweden. With over 100,000 visitors a year (2010: 150,000), it attracts as many visitors as Åsele marknad , the “largest folk festival” in Norrland , which also takes place on the third weekend in July. The market is organized by its own company, Kiviks Marknad AB . The Kivik market is very old and has its origins in Hanseatic activities . In 1866 the date of the market was changed from August to July.
