Barum is a village ( småort ) in the municipality of Kristianstad in the Swedish province of Skåne län .
The place is east of Kristianstad on the banks of the large lake Ivösjön east of Barum . The Ivöleden car ferry runs regularly from Barum to the largest island in the lake, Ivö . Lake Oppmannasjön extends just a little to the west of the village , so that Barum itself is at the northern end of a narrow headland between the two lakes.
The first documentary mention comes from the year 1211 as Barhem .
In 1939, about 2.5 kilometers south of the village, on the Oppmannasjön beach, the prehistoric grave of the Bäckaskog woman, who is known as the oldest woman in Skåne, was found. The Frau von Bäckaskog (also called Frau von Barum; Swedish Kvinnan från Bäckaskog ) is a skeleton find of a Mesolithic collector who died around 9,000 years ago during the Maglemose culture in.
Barum belonged to the rural municipality Fjälkinge (Fjälkinge landskommun) before this on January 1, 1971 in the municipality Kristianstad.
