Kristianstad's Vattenrike
Kristianstads Vattenrike is a protected wetland area under the Ramsar Convention near the southern Swedish city of Kristianstad and has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2005 .
The nature reserve begins in the south of Kristianstad in Eastern Skåne on the lower reaches of the Helge å at Hammarsjön and extends to Hanöbucht with the town of Åhus . In the 1043.75 km² (land and lakes 905.15 km², sea area 138.60 km²) area is the deepest point on the Swedish mainland at 2.41 m below sea level. There are 22 species of the endangered species listed on the IUCN's red list , such as the corncrake (Crex crex), the rimmed hunting spider (Dolomedes fimbriatus), the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera), the cod (Gadus morhua), the pond bat (Myotis) dasycneme) or the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), and 711 nationally endangered species. Several thousand cranes gather, especially at the spring break . In 2010 a visitor center was opened.
