Brady P. Gentry

Brady Preston Gentry (born March 25, 1896 in Colfax , Van Zandt County , Texas , †  November 9, 1966 in Houston , Texas) was an American politician . He represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Brady Gentry attended public schools in his birthplace and then East Texas State College in Commerce . He graduated from Cumberland University in Lebanon , Tennessee , where he studied law. After obtaining his license to practice law, he opened a practice in Tyler . When the First World War broke out, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1918 . He served in Europe , where he was promoted to captain of the infantry.

After the war, he served as a prosecutor in Smith County from 1921 to 1924 . He later became a judge of that county. He carried out this activity from 1931 to 1939. Then he changed his position again. Gentry was then from 1939 to 1945 chairman of the Texas State Highway Commission . After World War II , Gentry was elected a Democrat in the 83rd and 84th Congresses. His term of office lasted from January 3, 1953 to January 3, 1957. In 1956, he did not run again for re-election to the 85th Congress. Gentry went back to work in his practice.

Brady Preston Gentry was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery , Tyler.
