John Roger Williams (* 13. September 1949 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He has represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives since 2013 .

Career

Roger Williams attended Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth and then studied until 1972 at Texas Christian University , also in Fort Worth. At that time he was also active as a baseball player and coach. He later worked in the family-owned car company founded in 1939, which he became the owner. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He supported the gubernatorial and presidential campaigns of George W. Bush . Between 2005 and 2007, he served as Secretary of State, the executive officer of the state government of Texas.

In the 2012 congressional election , Williams was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 25th  constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Lloyd Doggett on January 3, 2013 . Williams originally considered running for the US Senate , but he refrained from doing so. After three re-elections in 2014, 2016 and 2018, he can still hold office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2021 with the option of a further candidacy in 2020.

Roger Williams has two grown daughters with his wife and lives in Weatherford , home of Parker County . He still owns his car company, Dodge , Jeep and Chrysler dealer Roger Williams Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram .

In the June 14, 2017 Congressional baseball assassination attempt on the run, Williams sustained an injury by jumping into a dugout and was taken off the field on a stretcher.
