Kevin Patrick Brady (* 11. April 1955 in Vermillion , South Dakota ) is an American politician of the Republican Party and since 1997 a member of the US House of Representatives for Texas .

Life

After attending Central High School of Rapid City Brady was as an employee of the Chambers of Commerce of Rapid City, Beaumont and the Montgomery County operates. He later studied at the University of South Dakota , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1990 .

His political career began with the election of a member of the Texas House of Representatives ( Texas House of Representatives ), where he served from 1990 to 1996, representing the Republicans.

In 1996 he was elected to the US House of Representatives for the first time and has represented the eighth congressional constituency of Texas there since January 3, 1997 . Since he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2021. His time as a congressman included the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan . In the 114th Congress (2015-2017), he chaired the Joint Committee of the Congress of Economics ( Congress Joint Economic Committee ). He was also Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means between 2015 and 2019 ; since 2019 he has been its opposition leader ( ranking member ). On October 29, 2019, he voted as one of 11 members of the House of Representatives against the resolution classifying the murder and deportation of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.
