Charles A. "Charlie" Gonzalez (born May 5, 1945 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American Democratic politician . From 1999 to 2013 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charlie Gonzalez is the son of longtime Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez . He attended Thomas A. Edison High School in San Antonio until 1965 and then studied until 1969 at the University of Texas in Austin . After completing a law degree at St. Mary's School of Law and being admitted to the bar in 1972, he began to work in this profession. At times he also worked as a teacher. He was also a member of the Texas Air National Guard . Between 1983 and 1987 and from 1989 to 1987 he was a judge in two different courts in Bexar County . Politically, like his father, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Henry Gonzalez worked successfully to secure his son's successor as Congressman.

After the successful nomination by the Democratic Party, Charlie Gonzalez was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 1998 congressional election in the 20th  constituency of Texas, where he succeeded his father on January 3, 1999. In 2008 he supported Barack Obama in his presidential campaign. After six elections, he decided not to run again in 2012 and retired from the on January 3, 2013 Congress of. There he was a member of the Committee on Energy and Trade and the Committee on House Administration as well as five sub-committees.
