Sam Blakeley Hall Jr. (born January 11, 1924 in Marshall , Texas , †  April 10, 1994 ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1976 and 1985 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives ; then he became a federal judge .

Career

Sam Hall attended the public schools in his home country until 1940 and then studied at the College of Marshall , now East Texas Baptist University, until 1942 . During the Second World War he served in the US Army Air Corps between 1943 and 1945 . After the war he continued his education with a degree at Baylor University . After studying law at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1948, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1962 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . From 1972 to 1976 he was chairman of his hometown Marshall's education committee.

After the death of Congressman Wright Patman , Hall was elected as his successor to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on June 19, 1976. After five re-elections he could remain in Congress until his resignation on May 27, 1985. During this time he was a member of the Legal and Veterans Committee. Hall's resignation came after his appointment as a judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He held this office until his death on April 10, 1994.
