Francisco R. "Quico" Canseco (born July 30, 1949 in Laredo , Texas ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2013 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Quico Canseco studied at Saint Louis University in Missouri until 1972 . After a subsequent law degree at the same university and his admission as a lawyer in 1975, he began to work in this profession. He also got into the banking industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 2004 and 2008 he ran unsuccessfully for the congress .

In the congressional elections of 2010 , Canseco was then elected to the US House of Representatives with 49.3 percent of the vote in the 23rd  constituency of Texas, where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Ciro Rodriguez on January 3, 2011 . There he was a member of the finance committee and a subcommittee. Canseco describes itself as conservative. He supports the strict immigration law of the state of Arizona and sympathizes with the tea party movement .

In 2012 he was defeated by his Democratic competitor Pete Gallego . Canseco initially refused to acknowledge the result and, even after acknowledging his defeat, assumed electoral fraud.

Canseco intends to run again for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2018.

Quico Canseco has been married since 1980 and has three children with his wife. He lives privately in San Antonio .
