Reese C. De Graffenreid

Reese Calhoun De Graffenreid (born May 7, 1859 in Franklin , Tennessee , †  August 29, 1902 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 19802 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Reese De Graffenreid attended public schools in his home country and then studied at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville . After studying law at Cumberland University in Lebanon and being admitted to the bar in 1879, he began to work in this profession in Franklin. Via Chattanooga he came to Longview , Texas, where he practiced as a lawyer from 1883. In his new home, De Graffenreid was also involved in building the Texas and Pacific Railroad . He was also a district attorney for two months.

Politically, De Graffenreid joined the Democratic Party . In 1890 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . In the congressional elections of 1896 he was then elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the third constituency of Texas, where he succeeded Charles Henderson Yoakum on March 4, 1897 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on August 29, 1902. During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell .
