John Culberson
John Abney Culberson (born August 24, 1956 in Houston , Texas ) is an American politician . From 2001 to 2019 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Culberson attended the common schools and then studied at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas history . This was followed by a law degree at the South Texas College of Law in Houston until 1989 . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1986 to 2001 he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives . In the meantime he worked as a lawyer for the law firm Lorance and Thompson .
In the 2000 congressional elections , Culberson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Texas , where he succeeded William Reynolds Archer on January 3, 2001 . Since he was re-elected in all subsequent elections until 2016, he was able to exercise his mandate until January 3, 2019. In the 2018 congressional election, Culberson was defeated by Democrat Lizzie Fletcher . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . Culberson was a member of the Grants Committee and three of its sub-committees. He was considered a conservative MP.
