Jim Chapman
James Louis "Jim" Chapman (born March 8, 1945 in Washington, DC ) is an American politician . Between 1985 and 1997 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Jim Chapman attended Sulfur Springs High School in Texas until 1963 and then studied at the University of Texas at Austin until 1968 . After a subsequent law degree at the Law School of Southern Methodist University in Dallas and his admission to the bar in 1970, he began to work in this profession. Between 1976 and 1985 he was a prosecutor in the eighth judicial district of Texas. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .
After the resignation of MP Sam B. Hall , Chapman was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he took up his new mandate on August 3, 1985, at the by-election for the first Texas seat. After five re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1997 . He was intermittently a member of the Grant Committee , the Science and Space Committee , the Committee on Public Works and Transportation, and the Small Business Committee . In 1996 he renounced another candidacy. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the US Senate elections .
Since the end of his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Jim has worked as a lawyer in the Washington and Austin offices of a Houston- based law firm.
