Kenneth Michael "Mike" Conaway (born June 11, 1948 in Borger , Texas ) is an American politician . Since 2005 he has represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mike Conaway attended Odessa Permian High School until 1966 and then studied at Texas A&M University until 1970 . Between 1970 and 1972 he served in the United States Army . After that he was an accountant and bank manager. Between 1981 and 1986 he was responsible for the finances of Arbusto Energy . At the time, it was headed by the later US President George W. Bush , with whom he is still friends today. Conaway served on the Midland City School Board . Politically, he joined Conaway in the Republican Party . In 2003 he ran unsuccessfully in a by-election for Congress.

In the 2004 congressional elections , Conaway was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Chet Edwards on January 3, 2005 . Since he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2021. He is or was a member of the Agriculture Committee (Chairman), the Armed Forces Committee , and the Intelligence Committee, as well as a total of two sub-committees. He was previously a member of the Ethics Committee , which he chaired between 2013 and 2015.
