Family, education and work

Pete Olson attended Clear Lake High School in Houston and then studied until 1985 at Rice University there . This was followed by a law degree at the University of Texas at Austin until 1988 . Between 1988 and 1997, Olson served in the United States Navy , whose reserve he is still a member. In the Gulf War he was used as a pilot.

Olson is married with two children. He lives privately with his family in Sugar Land .

Political career

From 1998 to 2002 he served on the staff of US Senator Phil Gramm and then for Senator John Cornyn .

In the 2008 election , Olson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd Congressional constituency of Texas , where he succeeded Nick Lampson on January 3, 2009 . He is or was a member of the Energy and Trade Committee and two sub-committees. He is also a member of several Congressional Caucuses .

He was confirmed in all subsequent elections, but in the mid-term election of Donald Trump's presidency in November 2018 he prevailed just under five percentage points over the Democrat Sri Kulkarni . In July 2019, Olson announced that he would not run again in the upcoming 2020 election, but would withdraw from politics.

The seat is considered to be one of the best opportunities for the Democrats to win, with Kulkarni running again. The former stronghold of the Republicans, which includes the southern suburbs of Houston, has become increasingly demographically diverse and therefore competitive. Olson had won by 19 percentage points in 2016, while Donald Trump won the district by eight percentage points in the simultaneous presidential election ; in the 2012 presidential election , Mitt Romney had a lead of 25 percentage points.

Positions

Olson argued for the construction of the pipeline Keystone XL and sat down heavily on the Johnson Space Center of NASA one.
