John C. Conner

John Coggswell Conner (born October 14, 1842 in Noblesville , Hamilton County , Indiana , †  December 10, 1873 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1873 he represented the state of Texas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Conner attended his home public schools and Wabash College in Crawfordsville . In 1861 and 1862 he studied at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis . Between 1862 and 1864 he served in an Indiana infantry unit that was part of the Union Army during the Civil War . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1866 he ran unsuccessfully for the Indiana House of Representatives . Between 1866 and 1869 Conner was a captain in the United States Army in Texas.

After the resumption of the state of Texas into the Union, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the second constituency of this state, where he took up his new mandate on March 31, 1870. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1873 . For health reasons, he decided not to run again in 1872. He died on December 10, 1873 in the federal capital Washington and was buried in his birthplace Noblesville.
